Do you find the swimming season too short? Do you rarely use your swimming pool due to discomfort because the water is too cold? Please note that with a water heater, you could enjoy your pool for up to 2 months more per summer. It’s not nothing !
Convincing yourself of the benefits of a pool heater is quite simple. But how to choose?
Water heaters are divided into 2 categories: heat pump (electric) or gas (natural or propane)
The performance
Gas appliances are generally more efficient (quick to heat). A gas water heater can increase the temperature of the pool by 2 and a half degrees per hour compared to only three tenths of a degree for the heat pump. That is to say, to increase the temperature of your water by one degree F, the heat pump will take approximately 3 hours vs. less than 30 minutes for the gas device.
Once your ideal temperature has been reached, however, the 2 types of devices are equivalent to maintaining it, they are equipped with thermostats.
Pool heater costs
The installation
Although the installation costs are quite similar for the device itself, the heat pump is simpler to install. Please note: you must also consider the natural gas supply or the propane tank and supply before installing a gas water heater. If you have no infrastructure for this purpose, costs could increase!
Use
Using a gas water heater is significantly more expensive than a heat pump. It will cost on average $400 to $500 per year to heat your pool with a heat pump. This is the type of device that costs the least in terms of energy.
The gas appliance will cost on average $1,200 to $1,500 per year. This means that performance has a price!
Please note that these prices are indicative only. The outside temperature, the location of your pool (in the sun or not), the volume of water in your pool and your swimming frequency will have an impact on heating costs.
The rules
Before purchasing your appliance, particularly if you are leaning towards the gas appliance, find out the regulations in force in your municipality.
