Is it a good idea to wait until your pool liner breaks before replacing it?

Most of us tend to repair or replace a product only when it breaks or becomes unusable. Why are we doing this?

Probably for budget reasons, we’re so tight these days that we don’t want to spend our hard-earned money before it’s really necessary.

Unfortunately, replacing an in-ground pool liner is often no exception to this logic.

However, in the case of an in-ground pool, it should be quite different. When a liner tears because it is too dry, the water that escapes can damage other components of our pool such as the concrete bottom or the sand bottom.

We must remember that if our canvas is 12 to 15 years old, the bottom of our swimming pool is also the same age and will therefore be more fragile to erosion.

A nasty surprise that will ruin the swimming pool season

Your liner won’t warn you before it tears! And it is quite possible that the breakage will happen during a time when the pool is in full use in the middle of summer or worse, during your summer vacation, in short, at the times when you make the most of your pool and where it will be a shame to deprive you of it.

Installing the cover is quick, but the entire process of taking measurements and ordering, not to mention repairing collateral breakages, can leave you unable to swim for several days.

To prevent these inconveniences, the best solution is prevention, at the start of the season early in spring. We then take a few minutes to touch and look at our pool liner and judge its condition.

Signs that the useful life of your liner is coming to an end

Generally, the side exposed to the sun (often the northern part) will be the one that will be most damaged. The pattern of the liner will have completely disappeared, the liner to the touch will seem dry and dehydrated and the material rough and porous.

If you have the feelings described above, don’t waste your time and have your pool liner replaced now. If in doubt, call us (contact page link), our experts will be able to guide you.
